Our Farm is a Lifestyle we choose

Having purchased our farm in 2015, it fulfilled years of planning and preparation.  Though we underestimated the amount of work needed to get our farm updated and functional, we have continued to work towards our goals, overcoming every setback put before us. 

Over this time, we’ve learned so much about raising livestock, and ourselves.  From fencing (a curse word in our house) to birthing animals, managing fields and equipment, and learning how to rebuild after a fire destroyed our primary barn.  A true learning experience that our children will take with them the rest of their lives.

All of these tests, set before us by God, were overcome.  We continue to forge ahead with our goal of providing the best quality livestock; Naturally Raised, for Healthier Living.  We believe that our customers desire an alternative choice to Intensive animal farming and industrial livestock production.  With this choice, comes a healthier animal and a healthier dieti

 

The Gerdel family comes from a history of farming, that dates back to Great Grandpa Lacey, who farmed cotton in South Eastern Missouri, Grandpa Moss farmed corn in Warren County and we carry on that drive to farm, here in Moselle, Missouri.  

Amy & Vernon work the farm with 3 of their children (Kasey, Madaline, and Kyle).  They hope to pass on the desire to farm to their children, allowing them to continue Gerdel Farms into the next generation.

Amy & Vernon have several children and three grandchildren. Their goal is to establish a farm that allows for their children to always have something to return to.

Amy has developed a flock of chickens, turkeys, and ducks, while Vernon maintains and manages the farms fields and infrastructure. Vernon and Amy are developing their hydroponic offerings and wish to move into aquaculture and spirulina production.

Madaline

Raising hogs is not what most 16 year old girls do, but Madaline has consistently produced high quality pork for customers, who complement her often with stories of the joy brought to their house when they share a holiday ham with guests, or amazing pork chops, cut thick for a weekend barbecue. The response from our customers is fuel for her to strive to continually take it to the next level of quality pork production
